
The Cairo event, the fourth edition of the annual Poomsae Championships, is expected to draw about 600 athletes from a record 59 countries.
“We are happy to host the World Poomsae Championships here in Cairo, which we believe would greatly encourage the spread of taekwondo in general and poomsae awareness in particular in all African countries,” Mr. Hussam said.
The three-day event, which will take place at the 25,000-seat Hall No. 1 at the Cairo Stadium in Nasr City, Cairo. The annual event is promoted by the World Taekwondo Federation and is organized by the Egyptian Taekwondo Federation.To further expand the global taekwondo population, the WTF launched the World Poomsae Championships in Seoul, Korea in September 2006 to draw 584 athletes and officials from 57 countries.The second edition of the Poomsae Championships was held in Incheon, Korea in November 2007, attracting about 500 athletes and officials from 50 countries.
Athletes will compete for 16 gold medals up for grabs at the Cairo World Poomsae Championships.
